In 2006, the St. John’s Transit Commission (Metrobus) in St. John’s, Newfoundland installed the first BEA smart card fare system in Canada onboard its 49 buses.

This installation used on-board validators and maintained the existing fareboxes.

Their card is known as the “M-card”

St. John’s, Newfoundland

Brantford, Ontario

Brantford Transit in Brantford, Ontario was the first Canadian city to install the complete BEA Automated Fare Collection System including fareboxes and smart card readers in 2007.

Their card is known as the “B-card”

Kingston, Ontario

In 2008, Kingston Transit in Kingston, Ontario installed a complete system on their 48 conventional transit buses.

Their system is marketed using the “My Card / My Ride” tag line.

Saskatoon, Saskatchewan

In February 2010, the Saskatoon Transit system in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan introduced a complete smart card fare collection system on their 135 conventional buses and smart card validators on 21 specialized transit minibuses.

Their system is known as the “Go Card”.

Regina, Saskatchewan

In November 2010, Regina Transit in Regina, Saskatchewan launched a complete system on their 109 conventional buses, and smart card validators on 30 paratransit minibuses.

Their system was the first to use hand-held validators for specialized transit service.

Their system is marketed as the “R-Card”.

The BEA Transit Solutions fareboxes have been installed on buses from all three major manufacturers (Daimler, New Flyer and NovaBus), as well as a range of minibuses used in community and specialized transit services. Vehicles with the system installed include both low and high floor designs, and range in age up to 30 years old.
