Operations Terminal
BEA’s Operations Terminal acts as both the base station at the garage and the terminal
for use by transit operations supervisory staff.
As the base station, the Operations Terminal provides the link controlling all data transfers between fareboxes and onboard validators and the Central System.
As the supervisory link, the Operations Terminal provides the ability to pre-load bus operators’ schedules into the system for example. When a bus operator logs into the system using their assigned smart card, the system sets up all route and schedule information automatically.
The Operations Terminal is a PC-based unit connected to the Central System by an Ethernet network connection. The Operations Terminal is capable of working on a standalone basis should this data connection fail.
The Operations Terminal also controls the exchange of information between the system and onboard fareboxes and validators as each unit enters the garage area using secure WiFi access points. Units are polled automatically. Transactional data is uploaded from the fareboxes and/or validators. Updated fare and card information (such as the latest “hot card” list) is also automatically downloaded to each farebox and/or validator.
