The Central System is the neural point of the BEA system. All transaction and configuration
data is stored there.
In some cases, the software can be accommodated on existing servers operated by the client.
The system is designed to be the focal point of a network of workstations that link the various functions of the BEA system together, including Management Workstations, Operations Terminals, Customer Service Terminals and Add Value Units.
BEA has invested significant time and money in developing the technology and knowledge that provides a robust, efficient and competitive smart card solution that is completely FEASIBLE for transit systems, particularly small and medium sized operations.
The Central System provides the capacity to store and maintain the database that includes detailed transactional data. In addition, data is archived to allow for access to historical information.
Data Management and Reports
The Central System also stores the fare tables that are used by the BEA system. The Central System stores a minimum of two fare tables - one current and one future. Different tables can be defined for use by different types of services. For example, the system can store fare tables for a city system and a separate, premium fare, suburban network.
The Central system, in conjunction with the Management Workstations, also generates reports for transit system management. Standard and customized reports can be provided using simple, SQL inquiries.
Fare Table and Product Management
The BEA system is capable of managing up to 128 passenger categories. It also regulates when the active and future fare tables are used. Fare tables can include time and day-based fare options, transfers, discounts, messages used on remote devices such as fareboxes and validators, and different products for each passenger category.
