The BEA Smart Card
The BEA smart card system provides for full functionality using the latest in contactless MiFare technology*.
The BEA smart card can accommodate up to 128 separate and distinct passenger classes. It includes the flexibility for a range of operations including fares based on time of day, variable transfer rules and through operated routes.
BEA smart cards features up to three electronic purses (e-purses), accommodating passes, e-tickets and cash use. In addition, a purse can be assigned to an independent use such as a loyalty program.
Two kinds of smart cards
BEA smart cards are available as:
- Permanent cards that can be reloaded, using the MiFare I protocol
- Disposable cards that are pre-loaded with a fixed number of trips and cannot be reloaded.
Customized smart cards
BEA smart cards are custom designed for your operation. Cards can be produced for a range of passenger classes such as adult, senior, student, child, employee and so on. The BEA system accommodates personalized cards by allowing customer’s photograph to be printed on the card.
BEA smart cards can also be produced for special events and conferences.

* - MiFare is the NXP Semiconductors-owned trademark of a series of chips widely used around the world in contactless smart cards and proximity cards. The MiFare name covers proprietary technologies based upon the ISO/IEC 14443 Type A 13.56 Mhz contactless smart card standard.
